Architecture

Xignage is a multi-tenant digital signage platform. Understanding the organisation hierarchy helps you set up accounts, control access, and model real-world deployments correctly.

The hierarchy

Tenant → Team → Site → User

Tenant

The top-level organisational unit. A tenant represents an independent reseller or partner organisation that operates the platform under a white-labelled brand. Each tenant owns its own teams, sites, screens, and users, and can be branded independently — custom colours, logos, and email branding. Branding cascades down: a team without its own branding inherits the tenant's, which falls back to platform defaults.

Team

The team is the primary unit of ownership. All content — screens, media, creatives, playlists, layouts — belongs to a team. Members are invited to a team and assigned roles. Most day-to-day work happens at the team level.

Site

A site is a physical location within a team (a store, branch, or venue). Screens are assigned to sites, and each site has its own timezone and access control, so schedules run on local time and local staff can be restricted to their own site.

User

A user is a member of a team, assigned a role that governs what they can see and do. A user can belong to multiple teams and sites and switch between them from the dashboard.

Branding resolution

Branding is resolved in order:

  1. Team settings (if the team has its own logo/colours)
  2. Tenant settings
  3. Platform defaults

Email sent from the platform uses the tenant or team name as the sender display name, with the logo and brand colour applied to email templates.

Content ownership

Content lives at the team level. Screens, media, creatives, playlists, and layouts all belong to a team. Sites organise where screens are deployed and control who can manage them — they don't own content separately.
